Preparing a survey you won't have to redo

Most survey redos come from a misunderstanding at the ordering stage, not a field error. Five clarifications are enough to avoid it.

Survey of an existing structure on a bridge worksite
In brief

Short answer

An existing-conditions survey is usable from the first delivery if you specify, when ordering, the exact extent, the required tolerance, the reference system, the delivery formats and any site access constraints. We confirm these five elements in writing before any mobilization.

The five clarifications to provide

  • The exact extent: how far to survey, and what should be excluded. A fuzzy boundary means a second mobilization.
  • The required tolerance: the accuracy that's useful for your design, not the maximum possible accuracy.
  • The reference system: expected coordinates and elevations, so the survey ties into existing data.
  • The delivery formats: CAD, point cloud, model, and the sharing platform used by your team.
  • Site constraints: access, operating hours, escorts, confined spaces, safety and required permits.

What we confirm before going on site

Once we receive your request, we validate the extent on plan, the chosen method, the mobilization date and the delivery timeline. You get it all in writing before work begins: no surprises at invoicing.

Useful documents to include with your request

  1. 01Existing plans, even partial or old ones (PDF or DWG).
  2. 02Site photos or an annotated aerial view.
  3. 03A previous survey or location certificate, if one exists.
  4. 04The project schedule and the date by which you need the data in hand.

Preparing your survey: what clients ask

What if the extent changes during the project?

That's common. When the method allows it, we document generously around the target zone, which often avoids a full redo. Any extension is priced before it's carried out.

Can you work during our operations?

Yes. Our mobile scanning methods let us survey without stopping production, and our crews can mobilize outside peak hours when needed.

When will I receive the deliverables?

It depends on the extent, the method used and the requested format. We confirm it in writing as soon as your request is validated, before mobilizing on site.
